Scott Brown Wins in Massachusetts!

The writing was on the wall on Nov. 3rd especially after seeing the New Jersey and Virginia results...Dorgan and Dodd knew they were gonners...Harry Reid and some others will soon be, as well!

Tonight was a triumph for the Independent voter in America (especially moderates and conservatives) since Republicans are only 12% of the voters in Massachusetts!

They sent a message in ultra-blue New Jersey, and now another in ultra-blue Massachusetts!

The message from the voters was so clear tonight...that Dems are now backing away from rumored threats to delay certification or possibly the seating of Senator-elect Scott Brown (R) in order to ram through "Health Care Reform" before he could be seated.

"Special Election Day" in Massachusetts!

I'll check spelling with Attny. Gen. Martha Coakley (D)...since she has probably gotten 100,000 emails about how to properly spell the name of her home state.

Today's battle pits Coakley vs. State Senator Scott Brown (R) and who has run an excellent campaign in what would normally be an almost automatic win for Dems...to retain the seat held by the late Sen. Edward (Teddy) Kennedy for 47 years...Libertarian candidate Joseph L. Kennedy (no relation), is polling in the single digits.

Despite having every advantage in ultra-blue Massachusetts...Coakley has run an incredibly inept campaign...little surprise! As a result of Brown's strong effort - Independents which play a huge role in the state's electoral politics...there is an excellent chance that Sen. Brown could steal what all experts considered a safe Democratic seat.

Ramifications are huge...potentially resulting in Sen. Brown becoming the crucial 41st Republican vote in the U.S. Senate...enabling Senate Republicans to block most Democratic/Obama legislation via the "filibuster"...at very least forcing changes and restraint upon a Democratic majority in both houses...and control of the White House. He could also kill Democratic versions of Health Care Reform, which are not viewed favorably in Massachusetts which already has "universal coverage".

Outside forces have raced to line up and do battle in Massachusetts...one thing is clear...the Democrats have already lost in many ways. The time, resources and debate raging in the state were all unexpected and costly to the Democratic Party.

Tonight's outcome will be closely watched, for good reason...voters may be sending a huge message tonight nationally. Look for the voter turnout to be much higher than the 30% initially expected...possibly 45-50% which is quite uncommon. If Massachusetts' large block of Independent voters...which have provided the state with several Republican Governors...turns out and votes for Brown as they appear to be leaning...the Democrats could be shocked!

Looks for Dems to do everything possible to keep the seat...to win "by hook or by crook" if they are able.

Not being very well-versed in the state's political demographics...not easy to predict this one but Scott Brown could win this race by several points. He is the winner regardless of the outcome...Coakley may win...but if she does...it will only be by virtue of "machine politics" and huge Democratic advantages in the state.

After seeing Independent voters in ultra-blue New Jersey upset the huge advantages of Gov. Corzine (D)...I'm actually inclined to believe there will be a huge upset in Massachusetts tonight.

I think Scott Brown will win by 2-3%.

Al Gore is such a fraud that I don't understand how any human can possibly still believe a word that comes out of his mouth. NSIDC discovered it had under-estimated Arctic Ice by 500,000 sq. kms. (193,000 sq. mi.) back in Feb. Oops! Great authorities to base policy on. Their own data still shows it "increasing" on average from recent lows in 2006. It also shows it being close to the "mean".

The rapidly growing Antarctic Ice levels get ignored. Yet Yahoo News features a story a couple days back about a massive iceberg floating towards Australia this week (during the "Summit") they neglect to highlight the fact it broke off of Antactica, 10 years ago! How much closer do you think it got to Australia during the week of the "Climate Summit"?

That there are so many other frauds at the Conference in collusion with him goes to show how much they have entrenched themselves. Naturally in 5-7 or even 20 years when none of this proves to be true...there will be plenty of claims that their actions "saved" the the planet.

A Republican landslide in Virginia!

A Republican upset victory in New Jersey...overcoming the massive Democratic majority and huge spending by Mr. Corzine. (Personally I can't see why anyone would want the job...the state is a disaster.)

Conservative Party candidate Hoffman has dropped the possibility of a recount in the New York 23rd Congressional District special election. With only a few absentee ballots left to count...Democrat Bill Owens appears to have won the seat by a margin of about 3,000 votes. Hoffman has announced plans to run for the seat again in the Nov. 2010 election.

As a side note...the district will cease to exist after 2012 due to census re-apportionment.

He is determined to walk run away from success in Iraq, and yet for all his talk about the importance of Afghanistan...he has boosted the numbers of troops there but seems determined to LOSE. He won't listen to his General on the ground there...who says we must increase troop levels if we wish to have success.

The Wilson (You Lie!) bit was silly...but oddly enough he was actually somewhat correct. House Dems (the liberal wing of the party) blocked the language and mechanisms for blocking illegals from getting into the system (HR 3200). He did act rudely and apologized quickly, as he should. BUT EVEN CNN HAS SHOWN HE WASN'T WRONG!

For me, I evidence relying on government's history of doing almost nothing "well"...and far less "efficiently". It is the nature of governments in general...and ours in particular, that they are wasteful and terribly inefficient. Sufficient arguement in itself that they shouldn't play a pre-emminent position in health care.

Neither party governs very well! I'll take one that attempts or espouses, to do less of it "to us". ...

Obama and many others have missed the boat...they could have taken serious and bi-partisan steps on tort reform, inter-state accesss and portability, providing a minimal "social safety net" to the un-insurable, and improving efficiencies...
Those things would enjoy broad support from a large majority of Americans of all political persuasions.

What were the "Progressives" and the "Liberals" watching tonight? I watched the same Presidential Address to a Joint Session of Congress...and I watched it on both MSNBC and CNN. The hosts and the other "lefty" commentators all think Obama hit the ball out of the park.

He seems to have done a great job "preaching to the choir"...He certainly didn't do anything to end his partisan efforts. He certainly didn't do anything to factually address the issues of costs and funding of his "reforms"!

He can't pay for...he can't explain it...he can't make it work!

Van Jones, Obama's "green jobs" Czar...finally resigned after mounting public pressure and criticism, mainly from numerous conservative political commentators.

Glenn Beck in particular was engaged in an active campaign to expose the "Obama Czars" and has targeted Van Jones for both his radical past and recent statements.

I don't think we should be surprised that Mr. Obama appointed an avowed Communist and radical...we should be appalled that he could and did!

Beck, Hannity and others have been actively working to shed light on the people Obama has been surrounding himself with, especially his large number of Czars.

There are now more than 30+ Obama Czars...Americans should know who they are, and what their agenda is.

Does anyone else think that it is the height of political arrogance for the Democrats in Massachusetts to be trying to change the method for filling Senate vacancies again?

The law there used to provide for the Governor to temporarily fill vacancies until a special election could be held (a very common method across the US). But when a Republican was in a position to do so (Mitt Romney), it didn't take long for that to change. When it appeared possible that both safe Democratic seats (Kerry and Kennedy) could be filled by a Republican governor...the massively Democratic state legislature quickly worked to prevent that from being possible. They took away the power of appointment from the Governor and replaced it with "special elections".

I find it appalling that Kennedy last week and his fellow Democrats, began a push to reverse that process. With the probabilty that Sen. Kennedy wouldn't last more than another week...suddenly it became so necessary for a Governor to again be able to fill vacancies. It is apparently so vital now that seats not sit vacant anymore...it might slow down the Obama agenda.

Truly disgusting! What they don't have the guts to say is "appointment is fine...for Democrats only...now that we have a Democratic Governor...the process is best". The contention that it is now so much more important to not have an open seat than at other points in history??? Bullshit!

I did respect Ted Kennedy for his abilities, and even for a few of his political stands (not many)...but even though I hate to "speak ill of the dead"...I have to say "Senator Kennedy, you should be ashamed of yourself and your party!"

Senator Edward Kennedy (D - Mass.) will be laid to rest near his brothers at Arlington National Cemetary today. I don't think I agree with very many of his programs or agendas...but he certainly was a notable figure in the history of the United States Senate.

Hello boys and girls...I have been taking a bit of a break. The newbies in the Administration have had a bit of time to prove they are clueless and clearly on the road to failure. Now that we have given the current Administration, 6 months (longer if you figure they were given all they wanted during the transition also), I think it is fair to begin judging them.

In my opinion, Mr. Obama is well down the path to passing Jimmy Carter as the worst President in modern history...possibly the worst ever, but I'll confine my judgement to the last 100 years.

Since I have a bit of time now...I'm going to be looking at the failed Presidency of Mr. Obama.

Presidential Fleet

It looks like a bit of light having been shed on waste, is going to help for once.

About a week ago, some observant people brought to light, that a plan to purchase a new fleet of up to 28 new "Marine One" helicopters for the Presidential fleet, had reached the point where the purchase was going to cost an estimated $11.8 billion.

Each one was going to cost more than Air Force One!

After the complaints began to stream in...it now seems that Mr. Obama is going to have that program trimmed or cut. He says he is content with his current ride!

I have no doubt that it wouldn't of happened if the public hadn't noticed it. President Obama seems to have no problems enjoying the use of his transportation fleet...everything from the new "Beasts" to taking Air Force One for short hops.

Not very "green"...

I must concede though...at least the Marine One choppers are painted green!

Stimulus always requires spending or incentives such as tax breaks...but not all spending is "stimulus".

They have additionally voted to bar him from holding any future office in the State of Illinois.

Obama's Stimulus Plan

$800+ billion for Obama's new "stimulus plan"...???

Nobody really wants to spend the money except the Dems (and they deny it). I'm happy no Republicans voted for it...It is a massive waste.

Certainly nobody has showed it will be effective or efficiently done, or even remotely cost-efficient...and when government spends money...we all know "cost/benefit" factors go out the window!

As for the money committed for fighting STD's being stimulative...at least "spreading" STD's would be stimulative and create jobs...preventing them really doesn't.

Obama is now talking about "saving and creating" 3-4 million jobs because he knows the jobs being "saved" can't be measured. So they can get credit for them later on.

Maybe they could use the money to hire a couple million hookers...to meet the numbers promised...the STDs which are spread would create many additional jobs in the medical, public health and drug industries.

I am constantly amazed when I hear people like Obama say the following:

In a January 24, 2008, interview with Christianity Today, Obama had this to say about abortion: "I don't know anybody who is pro-abortion. I think it's very important to start with that premise.

He knows them...and they do exist! There are well established, militant "abortion on demand" elements in the Democratic Party. There are also elements who do proclaim there should be more abortion. They do this in the guise of addressing the woes of poverty and over-crowding in parts of the world.

I'm not sure which element...the "abortion on demand" element, which sees there being no reasonable limits on abortions...or the people who think abortion as "birth control" and population control is proper. I have a difficult time considering them any better than the Nazi's.

Obama has now got the money flowing back to the 2nd element. I do believe there are doctors working for some of the international groups who do great things...but I can't support those groups for the other things they do. I don't want to subsize murder.

Why don't we just charge them and give them trials??

My reply:

Our founding fathers never had to deal with the modern concept or practice of terrorism. Most law covers only "domestic" crime. There were no such things as "international crimes", "crimes against humanity"...or "international terrorism".

The few internationally accepted legal principles mostly involved what has been called "the Laws of the Sea". Since all European countries recognized legal differences between naval "warfare", "privateering", and "piracy".

Those few laws were of course never subject to a body such as "The World Court"...and the laws regarding the handling and punishment of "Piracy" which is their contemporary equivalent of modern "terrorism" was brutal, far more brutal than anything we have in the modern world.

Why don't we just "charge them with a crime, then give them a trial"? Simple...the conventional law doesn't generally apply. The closest things we have to internationally accepted legal standards..."The Geneva Conventions" don't particularly apply to terrorism either. The nations of the world, are arguing about whether the people who are not recognized by international law and standards as "armed combatants"...and since there is no unanimity on the subject...the current answer is NO...they do not meet the standard or are they entitled to the protections offered by the "Geneva Conventions". These are not soldiers...

Since they aren't covered by most nations "domestic" laws...and aren't recognized by international laws and conventions as "armed combatants"...they are subject to the treatment of the nation who holds them sees fit. If the world wants clarity, and an internationally acceptable way to deal with these people and their crimes...the practical thing to do, would be to convene, agree upon, then adopt a new "International Convention for the Treatment and Handling of Terrorists and Irregular-Combatants".

This is something that of course doesn't exist...but should...to finally fill the void.

headline: President Obama - Accessory to Murder (oops soon we all are)

On Friday, his 3rd full day as President (2nd since actually completing the Oath properly)...a day after the anniversary of Roe v. Wade...the new President issued an executive order restoring funding to international organizations which provide information and abortion services around the world.

Is this supposed to be the sort of "change we can believe in"? I would say it is more like the sort of "change we can be disgusted by". Like it or not...with the sweep of his pen, Mr. Obama has enabled the use of our money to assist abortion providers around the world.

So for those who believe abortion is murder...a significant portion of the American public...this move means that he has decided, that they should be forced to subsidize murder. Perhaps the worst part of his decision, is that it is money which is going around the world. The American people have no say in the types or standards of abortion procedures which can be performed.

Americans in even larger majority are opposed to things like late-term and "partial-birth" abortions...but in his pandering to the left and the pro-abortion crowd...he has enabled even the most disgusting of abortion procedures to be subsized by us all.

The executive order reverses one in place since 2001 by President George W. Bush...which blocked the use of U.S. tax dollars to promote and provide abortions.

In a related move, Obama also said he would restore funding to the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA). Both he and Clinton had pledged to reverse a Bush administration determination that assistance to the organization.

It is almost kind of funny that over a million people froze their butts off and the world as a whole watched an historic moment...but one that that didn't actually occur. President Obama taking the Oath of Office.

By my reckoning we went roughly 30+ hours without a "President", as a result of the Presidential Oath of Office having been improperly administered by Chief Justice Roberts. Careful reviews show that one word was omitted.

Minor though it may seem...and in something of a conflict with the 20th Amendment to the Constitution...we had a titular President as of noon on Inauguration Day...but President Obama had none of the Constitutional powers and authority of the Presidency until sometime 30+ hours later when Chief Justice Roberts administered, and Obama took the oath properly.

This is at least the 3rd known time this has happened...and lest people think it is minor...consider this. The Oath has been re-administered at least 3 times out of recognition that the Constitution is clear. The President is President in name only until he takes the prescribed oath.

It isn't optional or trivial and if it was ever tested in the Supreme Court, would certainly be acknowledged.

Article. II. - The Executive Branch, Section 1 - The President

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

I have heard numerous reports that they did it again "just to avoid any difficulties" and such - but the fact is, they did it again...as did the others on the previous occassions...because of a recognition that the Constitution is clear. The President is not vested with his Presidential powers until he has taken his Oath of Office.

I am pleased that the Republic survived the 30 or so hours without a Constitutionally empowered President...what I'm not pleased about, is that we had to! All that was needed to resolve the situation was for President Obama to take 20 seconds in an alcove to complete the Oath properly. Robert and many other Federal Judges were available. There was plenty of time to do so, quietly, within minutes of the error.

Not really enough in this speech for "revisionists" to gild or rip apart.

I was surprised after the planned leaks about the speech over the last few days...that those elements weren't as much a focus of the speech as was leaked. Those same few words have been an element of just about every Inaugural Address...so I was surprised to see it be such a minor element in BO's. Nowhere near as sweeping as Kennedy's call to service, or sacrifice and responsibilty in many other's Inaugurals.

I think the "60 years ago..." reference was also a poor one. The statement was actually true as recently as 40 years ago, and could of referenced Dr. King's efforts to change them. Especially in light of MLK day yesterday and his assassination 40 years ago (2 days after I was born).

I'm speaking of all this in historical terms, including the grades I'm giving, naturally. So after several runs through the address...my grade for him is a B-

Inauguration Speech C+ and B+

For such a dramatic and anticipated moment in American history...I would have expected at least one "ask not what your country, can do for you..." moment. I didn't find anything remarkable in the Address in terms of historical standards. It didn't even seem delivered with BO's usual level of passion. C+ for the writing...B+ for the delivery.

I think given his reputation for being a "great speaker", this Inaugural address has to be given very average marks. Personally I have always considered him over-hyped as a speaker, except when speaking from a prepared text. He is Obam"uh" when he isn't. But aside from that he is usually a fairly skilled orator.

On this occassion, I would of expected him to deliver one of the best of his life...so I am disappointed for his adoring fans...and personally not impressed.
He had the platform upon which to deliver an important message, and an uplifting address to the nation and the world...he failed! The eyes of the world were upon him and I think the best that could be said, is that people watched and didn't change the channel...but given the fact nothing else was on...it wouldn't of done any good.

I think he squandered a great chance to deliver a great and uplifting message.

Jesse White may win against Burris

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White’s (Madigan’s) filing in response to the Burris petition for Mandamus was posted a little while ago. It is actually quite brilliant, with a number of solid arguements.

The Illinois Court is fairly liberal…and may reach beyond a simple or strict reading and interpretation of the law…but if have they handle it straight…White may well win.

The most crucial element is that he is asserting, he has already completed ALL of the acts required of him under Illinois law, and since Burris has the Senate to provide remedy to his seating…Mandamus should not be granted.

The law requires him to “make a register of all appointments by the Governor” and he did that on Dec. 31 and nothing in the law tells him to do more. Just because the Rules of the Senate, require both the governor and secretary of state to certify the appointment, doesn’t mean he is legally required to under Illinois law.

If White wins…the Senate may be forced to change the rules to seat Mr. Burris. From the White response, I’d say White has about an 80% chance of getting the Writ of Mandamus refused.

That will put the Senate back on the hot seat…to change the Rules of the Senate, or be forced to seat him later by what would probably be the U.S. Supreme Court.

It really gets into a legal gray area…the SCOTUS would be forced to dance around the Senate’s right to make its own rules per Article I, based on the 17th Amendment.Article I (and the Rules of the Senate)and the 17th amendment come into conflict with each other, if Burris loses in his effort to get a Writ of Mandamus in Burris v. White so it will be interesting.

Burris needs a better attorney...

His attorney...I would assume, some sort of legal hot-shot...cited Marbury v. Madison as legal precedent. Burris needs a new attorney, the case doesn't apply...and even worse for Mr. Burris, Marbury who sued the acting US Sec.of State to get the job he was appointed to...didn't win! So not exactly a good precedent...former State Attorney General Burris, should know it.

Mr. Burris needs a Writ of Mandamus to be issued by the Illinois Supreme Court, to force Secretary of State Jesse White to perform the duty of completing his Certificate of Appointment...until that is done, his credentials are not complete...he can't be seated without them.

Roland Burris today repeatedly announced that he is "a United States Senator".

Burris is not a Senator as he insists, and should know better (as a former Illinois Attorney General) than to say so...he can't be seated tommorow. He will have to sue Jesse White to do so.

Under the Rules of the Senate, a certificate for the appointment must be presented. The Secretary of State must sign it in addition to the governor of the state. The Illinois Secretary of State (Jesse White) has refused to do it...until a completed certification is presented to the Secretary of the Senate...Burris is not eligible to be sworn in and seated under the Rules of the Senate.

Contrary to many reports aired today...Burris can't be seated Tuesday, even if the Senate were to cave...because under their own rules...he doesn't have his credentials. Also, my reading of the law is such that Burris can't even sue the Senate first and use the decades old Powell decision in the Federal courts yet. He would have no legal standing as a petitioner. He is not going to be deprived his seat based on Senate actions...he is initially being deprived by the Illinois Sec. of State withholding his legal certification...so, look for the first legal move to be a suit regarding that...Burris v. White.

Appointment of Obama's replacement

The right of the Governor to appoint the Senator is absolute, under Illinois law...as long as he is Governor. The U.S. Congress has certain Constitutional rights regarding the actual seating and removal of members.

Article I. Section 5
Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members...Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behavior, and, with the Concurrence of two-thirds, expel a Member.

There's a very simple and legal method for preventing the appointment of anyone. It doesn't require any Senate action. Under the Rules of the Senate, a certificate for the appointment must be presented. The Secretary of State must sign it in addition to the governor of the state. The Illinois Secretary of State (Jesse White) can refuse to do it...to block any appointment by Blaggy.

That would of been a good message to deliver in terms of security.

I sort of wish the President had caught one of those shoes...he is a baseball guy. His form was good though, he ducked them like a batter avoiding a face-high fastball. But thinking about it more...who knows where those ugly shoes have been...better off not touching them.

It is interesting to see the difference in treatment that thrower gets now, versus what he would of gotten under Saddam. I think he and about 90% of his family would be dead or in torture cells right now, if he had tried something like that against Saddam. the rest would be racing across the border to get out.

I'm disappointed in the security team...they had a great oppportunity to shoot the thrower...and didn't...darn!

Barney Frank is responsible for many investors losing their money. Ignoring the major role he played over many years in blocking the efforts of concerned Republicans, Independents and Democrats in blocking any meaningful and timely changes in oversight of Fannie and Freddie. He, as O'Reilly shows, basically assured investors that they were financially sound investments going forward (something he knew to be false). That encouraged people to stay in and others to get. Frank is ducking the blame. As Chairman of the committee that is chiefly responsible for the the over-sight and regulation...he is more resposible than anyone outside of Fannie and Freddie. When the person in charge of the over-sight tells people things look sound going forward, instead of warning of the problems...that is as bad as the Bear Stearns Chairman telling people they are ok, then going under 3 days later. Actually it is worse because it was Frank's job to protect American tax-payers and investors.

My Rescue Plan...

I have been giving thought for a few weeks to something of a housing and economic rescue plan...and being one who despises the concept of Bailouts...I have been wanting to suggest this to the McCain campaign...since it would tie in somewhat to the suggested idea of buying troubled mortgages/housing to stabilize prices.

The 2 biggest problems in the housing sector are, declining housing prices (equity), and over-supply (currently 11 months supply of unsold new homes).

Commit $100 Billion dollars specifically to the purchase housing from the available supply and/or where practical foreclosures. Cap the purchase price at the median housing price to prevent over-paying, and to purchase as much of the supply as possible.

What should be done with it all? Take what would end up being a minimum 400-500k units purchased (actually more like 700k units, if purchasing units capped at the median average price of $250,000)...and put to use...how??? Easy!

All acquired housing would be committed to a variety of uses I believe would be acceptable to the vast majority of tax-payers and voters...

1.) Wherever possible due to proximity...provide new housing for use of all active-duty military personel and their immediate qualifying dependants (and demolish old outdated sub-standard housing/barracks etc.). For the duration of their service to the nation.

2.) Provide new housing where practical to those in need who qualify for reasonable programs which in many cases already exist in (sub-standard housing/shelters/nursing homes, etc.)...the veterans, elderly, disabled, homeless, disaster victims, etc.

3.) Provide units to charitable and service type organizations...providing valuable assistance to those who assist others in the nation...with the sole requirement, that these non-governmental organizations would be required to maintain the properties at their use. The Red Cross, Salvation army, etc...and so many more...could be aided.

4.) Some could also be used by government branches/departments if practical based on location, need, etc. (as opposed to renting or building such for government use).

This all accomplishes a lot. It would take over 10% of the excess supply off the market...which would absolutely help stablize prices. It would provide a very practical and acceptable end-use for tax-payer dollars (housing those who serve(d) our country or are in real need).

Another tangible benefit...jobs...in many many cases...the struggling construction industry, could be put to work in what would almost certainly be a need for altering many of these units for new uses...whether military housing, veteran residences, etc.

There is a real consumer/retail benefit also...it would provide stimulus to every business connected to housing...appliances, painters, home furninshings, etc...which is why the housing sector/market as a whole is hugely important to the economy...which means more jobs.

I'm interested in your opinions...but i think we would all support our money which the government is going to spend anyway...going to those who serve our nation.

Sarah Palin...like her, fear her or hate her? No doubt though, she is a force.
In my opinion, if McCain wins...it will be 100% resulting from the addition of Gov. Sarah Palin (AK - Rep.)

If the Obama polling surge (due to the economic news), starts to disappear again...and the debates go well for the McCain and Palin (at least beating lowered expectations)...I think we will see a very strong momentum shift again towards McCain and Palin.

I think that it is very likely that McCain picked up at least an additional 10% of women voters, with the selection of Sarah Palin. In a tight electoral and demographic situation...McCain picking up an extra 10% or more of the largest voting block in the United States (women)...is a huge factor. When also considering that he secured and energized the Republican and Conservative bases, and also picked someone popular in the West which Obama was courting...it is huge! It is also important to note that 53% of voters being women, and 2/3 of those voting Democratic...stealing 10% or more of women voters could be devastating to Obama.

Bailouts and Christmas Trees! A new RTC??

I consider this to be a separate thread and issue...since it is broader than just the Mortgage and Housing shit going on...I would like to know what others think of the proposed Bailouts. It is already looking like any measures passed to address current woes, will become what they call in Washington a "Christmas tree"...with the Congress being unable to resist the urge to hang on every imaginable bit of wasteful spending...government "pork", the gift that keeps on costing.
In Washington, there is nothing that we can't afford, that they can't give away...

CNBC on Friday asked for suggestions for a name for the new Entity to handle the Bailout (like the old RTC)...one of my personal favorites was "the Stabilization and Housing Investment Trust" [SHIT]

I was going to propose, "the Corporation for Economic Stabilization and Securitization" [CESS] since they were planning on buying and holding pools of illiquid assets and securities of which the true value is unknown. I thought regular reports concerning those assets, would be fun...reports about the cess-pool :)

Looking forward to other suggestions...if this stuff gets approved. The old RTC (Resolution Trust Corporation) did fine, but I think the new plan/efort will fail.

I'm happy to discuss the corruption and vice of our elected Reps...and other public officials. BUT, certainly they are not limited to Republicans or Democrats...and can hardly be deemed to be completely pervasive of either party in particular. Foley has not been convicted of anything but I concede he should be...

Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA) was actually censured by the House after being found guilty of his homosexual misconduct with a 16 yr. old Congressional page...and he not only didn't resign...he became a Committee Chairman afterwards

Rep. Barney Franks (D-MA), the most openly-gay member of Congress
had a male-prostitution ring operating from his Washington D.C.
residence...operated by the man he "shared" his residence with...

We have a lot of people out there in both parties who long ago forgot the old maxim..."People who live in glass houses...shouldn't throw bricks!"

Personally...most politicians, lawyers and media-types aren't worth a bucket-of-spit in my estimation!

Illegal Immigration

Build a fence? Keep open the borders? Amnesty again? Landmines?

Pretty obvious that we have a real problem...even those in favor of "amnesty" again for millions of "illegals", have to admit something has to change! What should our government do??

Personally, I think the initial Senate legislation is outrageous, and favor the House of Representatives' approach...secure the borders (fence, sensors, etc) and stop the flood of "illegals"...then work on enforcement and and overhaul of our laws and system. Real secure ID's and then enforcement measures against employers who knowingly employ "illegals" will take care of things better than a concept of catching and deporting millions...when people can't work illegally, they won't stay, then they leave us for Canada (Canada could use people!). They will be more welcome there, than here with us "intolerant yankee gringos"...

When I saw a few elements of the Senate Bill, I was floored...especially the measures to make "illegals" eligible for the "Earned Income Tax Credit" (EITC)...
a credit intended to reduce/or eliminate the tax burden on low-income American households. But the really disgusting Senate item is one which would give "illegals" credit for, and eligibilty to receive Social Security benefits for the money they have paid into Social Security (using stolen SSN's)...and essentially allow them to benefit from their "Identity Theft". These are cases in which "illegals" have fraudulently used American's SSN's to create ID's, work illegally, and in some cases, get mortgages, car loans, credit, etc...the theft and fraud of which causes hundreds of thousands of Americans credit damage, etc. We can call these the "Kennedy" provisions...he being the leading Senate force behind them.

Am I in the minority, being disgusted by these provisions? Should someone be rewarded for Identity Theft, credit fraud, Social Security and tax fraud??

The proponents argue, that hard working people who have contributed to the Social Security system, even illegally, should get to enjoy the benefits from a system they have contributed to. I think that is just an outrageous position, especially considering that they would then also be entitled to more benefits than they have ever contributed for (all Social Security tax-payers are)...rewarding people who are breaking our laws is a disgusting concept! The Kennedy's of the world want to be "fair" to those who knowingly break our laws and abuse our system, and damage the lives of honest Americans citizens!

Democrats AND Republicans who favor these types of measures, should all be tossed out on their asses!

Does anyone remember all the original Bush "Oil War" critics? I remember seeing so many signs at Chicago protests a few years back, and the "talking heads" on TV (such as Eleanor Clifft) declaring the "Bush Oil War" was all about "cheap oil"...and they didn't mean oil was too cheap...and the "Bushies" were trying to drive it up!

How silly do those people look now? Now of course those same people are holding signs saying Bush's "Oil War" is all about driving up the price so his oil buddies can make record profits!

Why is it so hard to get some people to believe that in the long run our only real national interest and motive and terms of the Middle East, is some degree of lasting peace and security? It is certainly in our national interests (and economic one as well)...is that a sinister motive??? I certainly don't deny our greatest interest in the region is oil/energy...but I don't see why that is wrong.

Does anyone have pics of some of those protest signs for me???

jibjab always makes me laugh...and they do a reasonably good job of teasing both parties...everytime Hillary slaps Bill, I laugh my ass off. Hey lets face it Pres. Bush has problems with a few words (nuclear and terrorists, especially)...but that doesn't stop him from trying.

9/11 Conspiracy?

Each day that passes, more and more people, are given more and more exposure and expressing their firmly held belief in 9/11 having been an evil US Government conspiracy and cover-up.
I have even seen some polls indicating 20+% are saying their doubts or questions about 9/11 have them believing in a Conspiracy...I find this incredibly alarming, and think it is one more insidious issue leading to the divides in our country now.

Two of the most ridiculous theories are that:

The World Trade Center (WTC) towers didn't collapse because of the jets that struck each, and the ensuing fires, etc...But were instead brought down with high-explosives.

The Pentagon was not hit by a jet on 9/11, it was instead hit by a "cruise missile" (presumably one belonging to the US military).

I don't think we can truly unite this country, if so many people really believe these absurdities...
we need to fight this one out.

I know there will always be a small number of "we never really landed on the moon" types
but there is no way anyone can say 9/11 was filmed on a backlot in Hollywood...so I think we can prove this one was real, and not a grand conspiracy and cover-up.

It is time for the whackos to blog-it-out...this should be fun for those of us who know it was all real...

George Bush's War???

People are so angrily divided over the war in Iraq...and I wonder why. I am a 110% supporter
of our "Invasions" of both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Many opposed call it "George Bush's War"...I believe it was, and is "Our War"!
So much trouble seems to be brewing over all this, that I think we should have an all-out debate about it. Ready to fight? Make your arguement...and we will see if you can actually make your point!

I assume this fight will branch out into separate debates, as to which arguements, relationships, events and individuals have been proper...and what is fact, fiction, conspiracy, cover-up, etc.

We will fight those battles as they arise...and they will become their own threads...
